World Tries to Put Humans Behind AI Agents
World launched AgentKit with Coinbase-backed x402 so AI agents can prove they are acting for a real person while using stablecoin micropayments on the open internet.
World says the next problem in online payments is not just how software agents move money. It is how anyone knows who, if anyone, stands behind them. On Tuesday the Sam Altman-backed identity project launched AgentKit, a tool that lets AI agents carry proof that they are tied to a unique human through World ID.
The product plugs into x402, the protocol backed by Coinbase and Cloudflare that is meant to let agents and software make stablecoin micropayments across the web. Payments solve one part of the machine. Identity solves another. If an agent can pay but no service can tell whether ten thousand agents belong to one person, the web fills with a new kind of spam, abuse, and fake demand.
